Ferenc Telbisz
Physicist, computer scientist. After graduating and working as a teacher for one year, he became a research associate at the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI). He achieved internationally recognized results in the field of cosmic radiation and then high-energy physics. From 1971, he developed measurement and evaluation methods, and then worked on the design and development of computer networks at the Particle and Nuclear Physics Research Institute (KFKI RMKI). His significant achievement was the CEDRUS (Conversational EDitor and Remote User Support) system developed with his colleagues, which implemented interactive text editing and task management via two connected computers. From 1985, he led the design of the KFKI local network.
Between 1992 and 1996, he was the director of the Information Technology Center of ELTE, managing the construction of the university network. Between 1997 and 2008, he was a development consultant at the MATÁV Postal Experiment Institute, and also worked part-time at the RMKI Computer Network Center of the KFKI.
He was a significant player in the construction of domestic computer networks and the introduction of the Internet in Hungary. He was also a member of several committees of the Information Infrastructure Development Program (IIF).
