József Tankó

Between 1957 and 1965, he worked at the Textile Research Institute, where he worked on the application of mathematical methods, mainly in the field of quality control in light industry.

In 1965, he became a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Computer Science Center (MTA SZK), and then worked at its successor institution, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Computer Science and Automation Research Institute (MTA SZTAKI) until 1979. Initially, he dealt with the programming of numerically controlled machine tools with computers. Later, he participated in programming work for other tasks and in the operational tasks of the institute's computer center - for a few years as the head of the computer center.

His research topic was the mathematical study of the scheduling of programs running on computers. He wrote and defended his PhD thesis on this topic.

From 1979 until his retirement, he worked at the State Administration Computer Service (ÁSZSZ). As a department head, he was active in system organization, project planning, and the development of concepts for computer applications (databases, state administration information systems).
