György Takács
Between 1972 and 1995, he worked at the Hungarian Postal Experimental Institute (PKI). His main research area was speech processing. He worked his way up the research career from scientific assistant to chief research engineer. Based on his patents, numerous devices operated in the domestic telephone networks.
Meanwhile, in 1989-90, he was a visiting researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
Between 1980 and 1995, he also taught as an adjunct assistant professor and then as an honorary associate professor at the Budapest University of Technology (BME).
Between 1995 and 1999, he was the strategic manager and business development consultant of Ericsson Hungary.
Between 1999 and 2002, he became the telecommunications director of the Hungarian Communications Authority; his main task was to professionally manage the transformation of telecommunications regulation.
From 2002 to 2010, he was an associate professor at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, then became an honorary university professor, and was responsible for the telecommunications subject group.
He is the co-author of 4 professional books (including the well-known Gordos -Takács: Digital Speech Processing, Technical Publishing House, 1983); he has published 103 professional papers. 4 of his patents have been utilized.
Between 1993 and 1999, he was a member of the Telecommunications Engineering Qualification Committee. Between 1996 and 2002, he was the Deputy Secretary General of the Hungarian Telecommunications Scientific Association (from 1998, the Hungarian Telecommunications and Information Technology Scientific Association, HTE). He held elected positions in the professional committees of the ITU (International Telecommunications Organization); EURESCOM (European Institute for Research and Strategic Studies in Telecommunications); and INTELEC (International Telecommunications Energy Conference).
His most significant professional awards: Technical Book Publisher's Award (1984), György Békésy Memorial Medal (MTESZ Optical, Acoustic and Film Technology Association (OPAKFI) and MATÁV Postal Experiment Institute, 1984); Kempelen Farkas Award (HTE + NJSZT + OPAKFI, 1992); Puskás Tivadar Award (HTE, 1999, 2015); Academic Award (MTA, 1999); Informatics Instructor of the Year (Association of Leading Informatics Professionals (VISZ), 2008); Neumann János Award (Office of the Prime Minister, 2009).
