László Szőnyi

Already in the university scientific student circle, he was involved in the then revolutionary digital technology. He began his professional career as a hardware developer at the Measurement and Computing Research Institute (MSZKI, then the Electronics Department) of the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Initially, he worked on transistor digital technology, the development of so-called multi-channel analyzers, and then participated in the development of the first domestic integrated circuit minicomputer, the TPA-i.

TPA alapú ipari (elsősorban olaj- és gázipari) adatgyűjtő és folyamatirányító rendszerek fejlesztésében dolgozott rendszertervezőként és projekt menedzserként. Jelentősebb projektek többek között: SZEAK Szegedi Adatközpont, amely az algyői gáztároló irányítását végezte, az ÁFOR terméktávvezeték irányító rendszere, a Tiszai Kőolajfinomító adatgyűjtő és irányító rendszere, a SZIKKTI-vel (Szilikátipari Központi Kutató és Tervező Intézet) együttműködésben létrehozott olajfúrások irányítását támogató számítógépes mozgó labor.
A BME Mérnöktovábbképző Intézetében oktatott és jegyzetek szerzője volt a fenti témákban.

From the early 1980s, he was the scientific head of the Small Computer Applications Department of the KFKI MSZKI.

After the organizational transformation in 1990, he was one of the founders of the private company KFKI Számítástechnikai Zrt. (commonly known as: KFKI Számítástechnikai Csoport), a member of its board of directors until 2006 - until the sale of the company - and was its managing director until 2002. With good business sense and together with his fellow researchers of similar abilities, he built up one of the largest domestically owned IT company groups in a decade. The group of companies brought together a number of companies that held leading positions in domestic IT development, trade and system integration.

His awards: Institute Award, 1st degree (KFKI, 1972); Excellent Inventor Gold Award (MTA, 1974); Jánossy Award (KFKI, 1985); Silver Award of the Order of Labor Merit (Presidential Council of the Hungarian People's Republic, 1987).
