He was a leading software developer at the Theoretical Laboratory (ELL) of the Computer Science Coordination Institute (SZKI).
He is credited with the QUALIGRAPH static program analysis software, which examines the structure of programs, compliance with programming technology regulations, and the quality of programs. The continuous use of the product was introduced among programmers on Siemens machines at SZKI. It was also distributed in several European countries.
Until his death, he was the chairman of the Software Committee of the Hungarian National Committee of Economic Order Quality (EOQ).
The János Szentes Award, established in 1996 by the EOQ Software Committee, is given to the best speakers at European Software Quality Conferences.
