György Szajbély

Date of birth:
1954.08.26.
Place of birth:
Budapest
Education, professional qualification:
  • programming mathematician - JATE - 1978.

  • After graduating, he started working at Volán Company No. 10, where he became a programmer, group leader, department leader, and then deputy department leader between 1978 and 1988. He was given a leading role in establishing the IT department. Substantial IT work was already being done on the TPA machines that arrived at the company.

He soon started his own business: he sold his ideas and solutions, in accordance with the possibilities provided by the legislation, first as innovations, later as a member of an intra-company economic working group (VGMK), and then as an independent GMK. With his colleagues, they created the first accounting program in the RSX operating system of TPA machines (to replace the ASCOTA accounting machines), which was sold not only to Volán companies.

In 1989, he founded Griff Kft. in Szeged with three people. Griff is a true “garage company.” With some trickery, they imported the first PCs from Vienna, and then, based on the experience of the accounting system previously developed for TPA, they developed an integrated business management system for the PC environment.

Between 1989 and 2000, he was the Managing Director of Griff Ltd., and then until 2017, he was the Chairman and CEO of Griffsoft Zrt., which was established through the transformation of Griff Ltd. Since 2017, having retired from operational management, he has been acting as the Chairman of Griffsoft Zrt.
In 30 years, the 3-person garage company has grown into a 170-person IT medium-sized company, and the accounting program has evolved into the integrated management system that defines Hungarian public administration - Forrás.NET.

In the meantime - in addition to his position at Griff - he was the managing director of Montana Kft. between 1991 and 1998, and then CEO after its transformation into a Zrt.

For two years (2000-2002), he was also a member of the supervisory board of the Hungarian Electricity Transmission System Operator Ltd. (MAVIR).

    And what else is important

    • He is one of the founders of the Digital Equality Foundation (DEA).
    • Recreation: Fishing, boating and gardening in Lake Balaton.
    • His hobby is real estate development. He undertakes the renovation and preservation of buildings whose preservation is important not only to him but also to the local community. Such as the villa building of the Főnix Hotel in Balatonföldvár or the former Maternity Home in Újpest, which is the headquarters of Griffsoft.
