Csaba Attila Szabó
He graduated with honors from the university. After a short period of industrial development, he worked at the Department of Wireless Communications of the Budapest University of Technology (BME), then at the Institute of Communications Electronics, its successor. In 1990-91, he was the deputy scientific director of the institute. After that, he worked at the Department of Communications, which was formed from the institute, today's Department of Network Systems and Services. He is the founder and head of the MEDIANETS Laboratory for many years. Since 1976, he has been a university doctor (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, BME), since 1985, candidate of technical sciences (MTA), since 1995, habilitated doctor (BME), since 1996, doctor of technical sciences (BME). Since 2015, professor emeritus.
He has carried out outstanding educational, research and consulting activities both in Hungary and abroad.
In 1990, he co-founded BCN (Business Communications Networks). Under his leadership, BCN became a leading videoconferencing provider and network integrator. In 2002-2003, he was an advisor to the President of the Trentino region in Italy, participating in the planning of the region's optical-radio infrastructure. Between 2003 and 2010, he was a senior fellow at the Create-Net international research center, where he led, among other things, the development of an innovative urban broadband test network. He is a senior advisor to the European Alliance for Innovation.
For many years, he was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Communications and Informatics of the Hungarian Association of Communications and Informatics (HTE); he is the founding editor-in-chief of the Infocommunications Journal, which has since been awarded an impact factor. He is the organizer, chairman and tutorial speaker of several prestigious international conferences. He is the author or co-author of 9 professional books and 10 university textbooks.
Memberships: Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Lifetime Senior Member; Hungarian Academy of Sciences Telecommunications Scientific Committee; Batthyány Circle of Professors.
Awards and honors: Pollák-Virág Award (HTE, 1975 and 1979); Tivadar Puskás Award (HTE, 2012); Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Hungarian State, 2015); Dénes Gábor Lifetime Achievement Award (Novofer Foundation, 2016); HTE Lifetime Achievement Award (2023).
