Imre Rudas
He has been working at Óbuda University (ÓE) and its predecessor institutions, the Bánki Donát College of Mechanical Engineering and then the Budapest College of Technology (BMF), since 1972 – completing all stages of his teaching, educational organization, management and scientific research career. In 1977, he received a Széchenyi Professorial Scholarship.
In 1987 he obtained the scientific degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, and in 2004 the degree of Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He has been a university professor since 1998. From 2003 to 2014 he was the rector of the BMF and its successor, the ÓE, and between 2008-2009 he was the president of the Hungarian Rectors' Conference. Since 2014 he has been the president of the Governing Board of the ÓE University Research, Innovation and Service Center. – Honorary doctor of the Technical University of Košice (2001), the Technical University of Timisoara (2005), the University of Óbuda (2014) and the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava (2016). Professor emeritus of the ÓE.
His main research topics are: fuzzy systems, fuzzy control, robotics, robot control, computer-aided process design, soft computing. He is the author of higher education textbooks, scientific textbooks, chapters, monographs, journal and conference articles on these topics, and is an active speaker at international scientific conferences.
Member or senior officer of numerous domestic and international scientific organizations (the list is not complete). Member of the NJSZT board of directors since 1998. Vice-president of the Hungarian Academy of Engineers from 2008 to 2014. Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) since 1990. Founding president of the IEEE Joint Chapter of Industrial Electronics and Robotics & Automation Societies in 1997, of the IEEE Chapter of Computational Intelligence Society in 2002, and of the IEEE Hungary Chapter of Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society in 2003, of which he has been a vice-president since 2014. Senior member since 1995, then vice-president in 2000-2001 of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society. Participates in the work of IEEE Region 8 since 2002. He has been a member of the International Fuzzy System Association since 1998, where he served as vice president from 2005 to 2007 and treasurer from 2009 to 2013. He has been an external member of the Serbian Academy of Engineering since 2004. In 2018, he was elected president of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society for the period 2020-21.
Honors: IEEE Fellow (2001); Neumann Prize (NJSZT, 2006); Dénes Gábor Prize (Novofer Foundation, 2006); Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, Civilian Division (2009); Honorary Professor (2013) and Honorary Consul (2016) of the Wroclaw University of Technology; Pro Óbuda Prize (ÓE. 2014).
- He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Acta Polytechnica Hungarica, published by Óbuda University, and a member of the editorial boards of several international scientific journals (Acta Electronica et Informatica, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, International Journal of Computers, Communications & Control, Computing and Informatics, etc.).
