József Peredy
Between 1952 and 1968, he began his career at the Department of Solids of the Budapest University of Technology (BME), first as an assistant professor and then as a scientific associate in the Solids Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences stationed at the university. His main task was the numerical mathematical solution of technical problems. During this time, he came into contact with one of the first electronic computers available in our country (Ural1), and began to deal (in cooperation with industrial companies) with the computer-aided design of building structures and the development of a computer "static autocode system". Between 1968 and 1972, continuing these works, he was the head of the technical calculations department at the Ministry of Construction Computerization and Management Organization Company (ÉM Számgép), and then the Company's deputy scientific director.
Meanwhile, the use of computers was also gaining more and more space in university education. Returning to BME as an associate professor in 1972, he became involved in the development of education in this direction, first in the field with the greatest computational demands, the Department of Solids and Structural Engineering, and then, as the graphical applications of computer technology became increasingly accessible in Hungary, from 1984 at the Department of Representational Geometry (now called Architectural Geometry and Informatics) of the BME Faculty of Architecture. Here he became head of the department, then from 1995 also a university professor, and finally from 2000 professor emeritus.
He defended his PhD thesis in 1969. In 1969, he received a technical doctorate from the Faculty of Architecture of the Budapest University of Technology, then a PhD in 1994, and then a habilitation in 1995.
His research areas include: freely shaped curves and surfaces, and discrete and continuous approaches to problems within the scope of mathematical analysis.
- He is married and has three adult children. (2019 announcement.)
