Geza Paksy

From 1966 he worked at the Telecommunications Research Institute (TÁKI), and from 1976 he was a senior research fellow (his research area was the digital communications that were developing during this period; he participated in the development of the first Hungarian pulse code modulated (PCM) system).

From 1983, he was the head of the department dealing with the development of digital line equipment at the Development Institute of the Telephone Factory.

Between 1992 and 2004, he headed the Transmission Network Design Department of Matáv (Hungarian Telecommunications Company) and then Magyar Telekom PKI Telecommunications Development Institute (based on network plans prepared under his direction, the 2.5 Gbit/s synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH)-based backbone network was implemented; he was a preparer for the application of wavelength multiplexed (DWDM) optical systems; together with his colleagues, he designed Matáv's 10 Gbit/s DWDM backbone network and also contributed to its implementation).

2004-2007. között a Budapesti Műszaki és Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetem (BME) Távközlési és Médiainformatikai Tanszék (TMIT) tudományos munkatársa. Kutatási területe az optikai átviteli rendszerek fizikai rétegének számítógépes modellezése és optikai szintű tervezése (munkatársaival kidolgozta az optikai hozzáférési hálózatok (FTTx) térinformatikai alapú topológiai tervezésének metodikáját).
Nyugdíjba vonulása után is megmaradt kapcsolata a tanszékkel, 2014-től címzetes egyetemi docens. Több EU kutatási projektben dolgozott.

A Hírközlési és Informatikai Tudományos Egyesület (HTE) szakmai munkájában aktívan működött közre.
Kitüntetései: Puskás Tivadar-díj (HTE. 1994 és 2003); Pollák-Virág díj (HTE, 2005); Békésy György Emlékérem (PKI Távközlésfejlesztési Intézet, 1997); Magyari Endre-díj (Magyar Telekom, 2000); Magyar Hírközlésért szakmai érem (IHM - Informatikai és Hírközlési Minisztérium, 2004); Kozma László emlékérem (BME-TMIT, 2007).
