Tibor Nemetz
His most important workplaces: Hungarian Academy of Sciences Mathematical Research Institute (later: Rényi Institute); Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Faculty of Natural Sciences (TTK), Department of Probability Theory and Statistics.
His scientific research has focused primarily on certain topics in information theory and its border areas. He has presented his results in more than 110 publications, mostly in renowned journals. He is the best-known researcher in Hungarian cryptography.
Academic degrees: Doctor of Science (1970, ELTE Faculty of Mathematics); Candidate of Mathematical Sciences (1973); Doctor of Mathematical Sciences (1994). In 1998, he habilitated at ELTE Faculty of Mathematics.
His professional work – scientific research, teaching and dissemination – has had a significant impact in several fields. This has made it possible to introduce new mathematical topics into university and secondary school education, as well as to apply certain mathematical results in practice.
The National Academy of Sciences and Humanities awarded him the Kalmár Prize in 2001.
