József Lukacs (1933)
From 1956 to 1998, he worked as a scientific associate at the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI), and until its closure at the Measurement and Computing Research Institute (MSZKI). Initially, he designed multi-channel analyzers, then participated in the installation and start-up of the KFKI Ural computer, and later the English ICT computer.
In 1960, together with his colleague Gyula Iványi, he initiated the creation of a small computer at the Institute, similar to the DEC PDP. They learned about the instruction set of the PDP machine from the brochures distributed, and designed a machine implementing this instruction set. (The hardware designs were made by Gyula Iványi and János Bogdány, the storage was the work of Zoltán Nyitrai.) A simple compiler was also created for it.
