András Lőrincz
Between 1975 and 1997 he worked at the Isotope Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Between 1980-1981 he was a visiting researcher at the University of North Carolina; between 1982-1984 he was a research assistant at the University of Chicago; between 1988-1989 he was a visiting assistant professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology; in 1991 he was a visiting professor at Brown University, while between 1997-1998 he was the scientific director of Mindmaker Kft.
Since 1998, he has been a researcher and senior fellow at the Faculty of Informatics (IK) of ELTE.
He has taught and lectured in physical chemistry, photoacoustics, laser physics, control of quantum systems, and various subjects of artificial intelligence (AI) at ELTE, the University of Szeged (SZTE), the University of Chicago, Brown University, and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
At first, he dealt with experimental and theoretical topics, particle physics, solid-state physics, molecular physics and laser physics. He obtained his doctorate from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of ELTE in 1978. He became a candidate of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1986. He habilitated in laser physics at the University of Szeged in 1998, where he also received the title of private scientific teacher.
In the 1990s, he also began working on artificial intelligence (AI). He was awarded the István Széchenyi Professorial Scholarship between 2003 and 2006. In 2008, he received his habilitation in Computer Science at ELTE; he is a senior fellow at the Department of Artificial Intelligence.
Research topics: human-machine collaboration, intelligent systems, ambient intelligence, applications of artificial intelligence, neurological modeling.
He has over 200 publications; his independent citations are nearly 1,500.
The topics of his most important supported projects: Digital Finance, Smart Factory, Medical Cyber-Physical Systems, Cooperation with Distributed Intelligent Agents, Dialogue-Innovator in Blogspace since 2006. These projects were also supported by Panasonic, Honda Research Institute, the US NSF—OTKA, the US Air Force Information Directorate, the EU FP6 and FP7 framework programs, Morgan Stanley Hungary, Magyar Telekom and the leading European educational organization dealing with digital innovation and entrepreneurship, EIT Digital.
Awards: Young Lecturer of the Faculty (Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA, 1988-1989), Master Teacher Award (ELTE, 2001), Kalmár Award (NJSZT, 2004); ELTE Innovative Researcher Award (ELTE. 2009); Pro Ingenio Award (ELTE for research training of young people, 2015); ELTE Innovative Researcher Award (ELTE, 2019); Eötvös Ring (ELTE, 2020).
In 2006, he was elected a member of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI) in recognition of his pioneering work in the field of artificial intelligence.
