László Leindler
He was a first-year student at the Szeged school started by László Kalmár in 1957. After obtaining his teaching diploma, he taught mathematics at the Chemical Industry Technical School in Veszprém.
In 1959, he joined the József Attila University (JATE); in 1962 he became an assistant professor, later an associate professor, and from 1968 a university professor. From 1977, he was the head of the Department of Set Theory and Mathematical Logic, and from 1983-1998, he was the head of the Department of Analysis.
Between 1999 and 2002, he received a Széchenyi Professorship scholarship.
He was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the JATE between 1967-1971, and the Dean of the Faculty between 1972-1975. He was the Vice-Rector between 1975-1978 and 1984-1987.
Since 2003, he has been an honorary doctor of the University of Szeged, and since 2005, he has been a professor emeritus.
He was a visiting professor at several foreign universities: University of Giessen (1977, 1980), University of Edmonton (1974, 1983, 1989, 1990), University of Toronto (1993). He was also a visiting researcher in Toronto (1966–1967) and Moscow (1968–1969).
He defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of mathematical sciences in 1962 and his academic doctorate in 1966, and then became a member of the Mathematics Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. From 1973 he was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and from 1982 a full member.
Between 1976 and 1990, he was the vice president of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. At the same time, he was the vice president of the Szeged Academic Committee.
Between 1982 and 1992, he was editor-in-chief of the journal Acta Scientarum Mathematicum (editor between 1970 and 1997), and a member of the editorial boards of Acta Mathematica, Analysis Mathematica, and Periodica Mathematica.
He is the author or co-author of more than two hundred and fifty scientific publications and five university notes.
His awards: Géza Grünwald Prize (Bolyai János Mathematical Society, BJMT, 1961); Doctor of Science (Sub auspiciis) (1964); Tibor Szele Memorial Medal (Bolyai János Mathematical Society, BJMT, 1984); Széchenyi Prize (1992); Klebelsberg Kuno Prize (2002); Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy Medal (SZTE, 2002); Szeged Academic Committee Memorial Plaque (2003); Middle Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2004).
