Béla Krekó (1945)
He completed his university studies in the planning mathematics department founded by his father, Béla Krekó, a professor at the Marx Károly University of Economics (MKKE). His interest in economic mathematics and operations research tasks attracted him from the beginning. In 1968, he started as a macro modeler at the National Planning Office; from 1973, he was the deputy head of the department of the institution's Computer Center, dealing with modeling and IT tasks.
He worked in the IT field for several years. First, he was the head of the Economics Department at the Computer Application Company (Számalk), then he worked as a senior scientific fellow at Kopint-Datorg on the preparation of the computerization of the customs system. After that, between 1990 and 1994, he headed the Institute of Informatics and Methodology of the Ministry of Finance (PM), which provided modeling, analysis and IT services to the ministry.
He joined the State Insurance Supervision in 1994, where he worked as a department head in the Economics Department for the first six years. The key task of the economic analysis team he led was the risk assessment and analysis of insurance companies, and the development of a new methodology. After the merger of the supervisions, from April 2000, as the head of the Monitoring Department, he had to establish the Supervision's rating, risk assessment, monitoring, and data provision systems, extending not only to the insurance area, but also to the fund, credit institution, investment service, and capital market areas.
From 2003, he continued his career as the head of the Actuarial Department within the supervision. From 2005, he took a leading role in the development of international supervisory methodologies and manuals based on the Basel principles that determine banking regulation. From 2006, under his leadership, the predecessor of the Modeling Department, Department 5, was established in the Financial Groups Supervision Department. The validation of internal models and the process of internal assessment and supervisory review of capital adequacy became inextricably linked with his name.
In 2009, he received the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
