István Kőrösi

Date of birth:
1947.08.17.
Place of birth:
Budapest
Education, professional qualification:
  • Electrical Engineer - BME - 1970. (Instrumentation and Control Engineering)
  • Academic degree:
    PhD - 1987 - BME

During his university studies, he established a close professional relationship with Assistant Professor Gyula Jakobi, head of ODRA 1013 at the Department of Process Control of the Budapest University of Technology (BME), and participated in the development of software related to the machine. After graduation, he worked as a research associate at the Computer Science Group (later at the Department of Process Control) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (VIK) of BME, where he operated the ODRA 1204 computer as a lead system programmer, and at the same time - with the involvement of students - managed the software development. As a result, e.g. BOSS 7.0, which also provides batch mode, was born.
He has been involved in computer science education from the beginning in the Instrumentation and Control Engineering and Informatics departments. He has developed and taught courses in full-time and professional engineering education.

Since 1981, he has been involved in education and development related to the Unix operating system, laying the foundation for its use in educational environments in Hungary. In collaboration with Imre Szeberényi and Zoltán Szabó, and relying on numerous students preparing for the Scientific Student Conference (TDK) and planning their diplomas, he was the first in Hungary to adapt UNIX V6 to the Russian-made SZM-4 computer.

He received his doctorate in 1987. He spent 2 years as a visiting researcher at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", where he worked on robotics and education in the UNIX environment.

As a supervisor, he participated in numerous industrial assignments. Highlights include the firmware and system engineering development, microprogramming and simulation of the EMG 666 programmable desktop calculator, the editing of the machine's basic program library and manuals, and the development of the basic software for microprocessor systems oriented towards industrial applications.

Among his publications, the editing of the software articles of the Automation Lexicon is worth mentioning.

In 1988, he moved to Italy on a work permit, where he worked as a chief engineer at an industrial software company in Turin. Here he managed the development of an artificial intelligence-based NC expert system, the development and commissioning of computer-aided control systems for automotive production lines (Volvo, Saab), and the implementation of network software for weaving machines. Later, he was responsible for the development/integration of process control and supervisory data acquisition (SCADA) systems for the tile/brick industry.

From 2000 until his retirement, he worked as a system integrator (deployment) of banking software.
