László Korányi
After graduating from university, he participated in a joint research project at the Department of Instrumentation and Measurement Technology of the Budapest University of Technology (BME) with the Semmelweis University of Medical Sciences (SOTE), on the development of algorithms for evaluating vegetative signals.
He began his corporate career at the Medicor Művek Research and Development Institute, developing microprocessor-controlled medical instruments. Later, as head of Medicor's IT department, he was one of the leaders in the introduction of the first Hungarian mini-computer-based, on-line corporate IT system.
In 1991, together with his colleagues, he founded Onyx Software Company Ltd., of which he was the managing director until 2006. Onyx was the Hungarian distributor of the Israeli Magic 4GL, one of the most innovative versions of the so-called 4th generation development systems; using this technology, it participated in the implementation of several large financial and state administration systems (e.g. Robotzsaru). From 1999, Onyx became the Hungarian subsidiary of the Israeli Magic Software Enterprises, listed on Nasdaq; as its manager, he was also the director of the Central European region.
In 2007, he made a significant career change and worked as a science and technology advisor at the Hungarian Embassy in Tel Aviv for 5 years.
From 2012 to 2015, he was the Vice President for External Relations and then Acting President of the National Innovation Agency (NIA). His focus was on developing the Hungarian startup ecosystem; he is credited with launching the technology incubator program.
For a period of time, he was the chairman of the Hungarian CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research - European Organization for Nuclear Research) Committee.
Between 2015 and 2016, as CEO of Technopolitan Zrt., he launched the adaptation of the MIT (Cambridge, Massachusetts) Venture Mentoring Service program at BME and participated in the operation of the Demola program.
In 2017-2018, he was the first director of the Innovation Directorate of Óbuda University (ÓE), introducing several new operating models.
Since 2019, he has been the Chief Innovation Advisor of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, and a lecturer at the ÓE.
