Adam Kertesz
He initially worked at the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and then at IBM Hungary, where he rose through the ranks. As a director in the 1960s, he successfully led the representation of one of the leading companies in the capitalist world in socialist Hungary.
From 1971, he participated in the development of the international trade system of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) as a technical and economic consultant to the Computer Application Company (Számalk).
From the late 1960s, he was a leading expert on the APL programming language, a successful and recognized user of the language.
Since the late 1980s, he has worked for large international companies in the United States of America (USA): as a consultant at Morgan Stanley, as an analyst and consultant at Philips North America, and then as an APL manager. He has developed several successful business applications and APL-based systems.
In 1987, the NJSZT awarded him the Neumann Prize.
- He liked mathematics since he was young, yet he first applied to the Budapest University of Technology, where he studied chemical engineering for 4 and a half years.
- Hobbies: bridge, number theory, puzzles.
- For nearly three decades he was among the best in the first division of the Hungarian bridge championship. He also took an active part in the organization of the competitions. For years he was the only internationally recognized Hungarian referee. He refereed at many international competitions both in Hungary and abroad.
