Zoltán Jenei
After graduating from university, he started working for the Hungarian Telecommunications Company (MATÁV), which had just been spun off from the Hungarian Post Office. A year later, he became the head of MATÁV's Budapest Computer Center. He played a decisive role in the modernization of the company's IT systems.
He was the IT Director of Matáv from 2000, and after the merger with Westell, he managed the integrated company's IT developments. In addition to implementing several significant systems, he implemented one of the largest IT outsourcing deals in the region for Electronic Data System Corporation (EDS).
He has received numerous corporate awards and was also given the opportunity to complete the US-EU international Purdue-TIAS International Executive MBA program.
In 2010, as an employee of Kopint Datorg, he led the integration of the IT area of the then Central Services Directorate General (KSZF), as the head of the insourcing project. This gave a significant boost to the building of the foundations of today's National Infocommunications Service Company (NISZ).
Between 2011 and 2013, he served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Raiffeisen Hungary. Among other things, he transformed the development, operations and project management areas into a unified organization. He successfully led significant projects with his team, such as new banking front-end functions, lending support, CBS (Core Banking System) modernization. He improved the cooperation between business and IT areas with new management tools, the creation of Demand Management and Key Account Management, and regular and open discussions.
Between 2013 and 2018, he held international IT management positions. As Group CIO of Sberbank Europe AG, he oversaw IT activities in 10 countries in addition to managing the IT activities of the Vienna headquarters. During this time, a new CBS was implemented and the Treasury, risk management and regulatory reporting systems were revamped at group level. Several major IT transformations were carried out in the countries of the region, including the creation of a fully digital bank in Germany. In a few years, he built a strong central team with experts from several countries.
Since 2018, he has been carrying out project quality assurance, consulting and advisory activities with his own company, upify IT Ltd., in the fields of banking and small and medium-sized enterprises.
He has presented at several conferences, most recently winning first place at the PMI Regional Conference Presentation Competition in Vienna in 2019. He is a co-author of the CIO Handbook (Management Press) and a co-editor of the PMBOK Guide, Sixth Edition.
He has taken an active public role in the IT profession. Between 2010 and 2014, he was the head of the Hungarian Association of Leading IT Professionals (VISZ). Under his leadership, the number of member companies was increased several times and traditions such as the annual InfoHajó conference were established. Honorary VISZ member.
In recognition of his professional leadership work, he was awarded the CIO of the Year award by the VISZ in 2002.
