Education, professional qualification:
  • engineer - József Nádor Technical University - 1949.
  • Economic Engineer - University of Civil Engineering and Transport Technology - 1959.
  • Academic degree:
Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences - 1967 - Engineering

From 1949 he worked in research and then structural design positions. In 1952 he was the first to design a multi-purpose lightweight building. From 1957 his interest turned towards cybernetics and operations research; as a researcher at the Construction Computer and Management Automation Company (ÉM SZÁMGÉP) of the Ministry of Construction, from 1959 he was the head of the then formed Economic and Technological Design Group. From 1963 he was the head of the scientific department of ÉM SZÁMGÉP and then deputy director.

He soon recognized the efficiency-enhancing significance of cybernetics and operations research in the spatial and temporal planning and management of transportation, construction and execution processes, and long-term capacity development. Based on his dissertations developed and defended in such topics, he became a university doctor in 1959, a candidate in 1963, and then a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1967.

Since February 1963, he has been a part-time associate professor at the Marx Károly University of Economics (MKKE), and since 1968, he has been an honorary university professor. As the acting head of the University Computing Center, he participated in the establishment of the center. He is one of the lecturers of the Operations Research subject in the then-launched Department of Planning and Economics at MKKE.

In 1970, he was appointed as a professor at the Budapest University of Technology (BME), where he developed and taught the subjects of Computerization, Operations Research, and Systems Analysis and Control in several faculties. From 1972, he was the organizer and head of the construction engineering department. His previous research topics were expanded here, and he developed new algorithms in the field of operations research. He headed several thematic committees of the National Technical Development Committee (OMFB).

In 1980, he was a visiting professor in Dresden, giving lectures on operations research, systems engineering and production management. Since 1988, he has been an honorary doctor of the Friedrich List College of Transport Sciences in Dresden.

At the request of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he founded and chaired the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Systems Engineering Committee. Since its establishment, he has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Operations Research Committee. He also participates in the work of several permanent and ad hoc committees of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Hungarian national committees of international organizations. Since 1957, he has been a member of the Transportation Science Association for a long time, and is the founder and chairman of the cybernetics and automation standing committee. He is a member of several central committees of the Association of Technical and Natural Sciences Associations (MTESZ). In 1963, he was one of the initiators of the Central Department of Information Processing, Cybernetics and Operations Research of the MTESZ (which is a predecessor institution of the NJSZT). He has headed the Operations Research Department of the NJSZT for more than 10 years. He is also a member of other domestic scientific societies. He is one of the founding members of the international scientific organization "Mathematical Programming Society". In 1982, he became a member of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) permanent working group on the automation of production planning and control.

Since 1958, he has published three (co-authored) and seven independent books, seven university notes, and more than 130 studies (26 of which in foreign languages, 19 abroad). The Technical Book Publishing House has awarded two of his books with a prestigious award.
