Iván Havas
From 1958 to 1961, he was a structural engineer at the Industrial and Agricultural Design Company (Iparterv). From 1962, he taught at the Budapest University of Technology for 51 years; initially, he taught technical mechanics and structural engineering.
From 1968, for 45 years, he was a lecturer in IT. For 28 years, he was one of the directors of IT education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (ÉMK). He taught IT in 30 full-time and a large number of evening and correspondence courses. Between 1987 and 1996, he also directed the interfaculty English-language IT education at BME. He participated as a lecturer in numerous professional engineering training courses and engineering further training courses.
In 1971, he organized and then (with interruptions) led the Computer Science Group of the Faculty of Civil Engineering for 14 years. In 1976-1977, he developed the scope of work and organizational structure of the BME Computer Science Application Center. From 1977 to 1982, he was the Deputy Director of the Center. After his retirement in 1996, he participated in the Faculty's computer science education until December 2012.
Between 1971 and 1973, he worked as a second lecturer at the Technical College of Transport and Telecommunications (later: Széchenyi István University), organizing and directing the IT education of the Faculty of Transport Engineering.
He has contributed to public education as an IT consultant to the Budapest Pedagogical Institute and other organizations, and as a professional reviewer of a large number of textbooks. Since the organization of the ECDL exam system, he has been an accreditor and quality controller at the exam center.
He participated in the design and development of technical computer programs and other data processing systems. He is the author or co-author of several textbooks, university notes, professional articles, and research reports. As an expert, he participated in the activities of the National Technical Development Committee (OMFB), the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, the Ministry of Education, and several large institutes.
His awards: Neumann Award (NJSZT, 2010); Lifetime Achievement Award (NJSZT, 2015). At its 2022 conference, the NJSZT thanked him for his dedicated and high-quality work for the benefit of the Society for 25 years with a personalized commemorative pen and plaque.
