    He is the head of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics of the Faculty of Horticulture of Szent István University (SZIE), and later of Corvinus University of Budapest (BCE), and the vice-rector of the university. Since 1976, he has been an honorary associate professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (TTK) of ELTE.

    He obtained his PhD in Mathematics in 1978. He defended his thesis entitled "Mathematical Modeling of the System of Agroecological Features" in 1985, and received his Doctoral degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Agricultural Science. He has been a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1995.

    His scientific work mainly concerns operations research, risk analysis, climate change in agriculture; he deals with agroecology, biometrics, and mathematical modeling of agrobiological methods and problems. He participates in large, comprehensive domestic and international research projects.

    He is a member of numerous professional organizations, scientific associations, and academic committees. Since 1990, he has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Alkalmazott Matematikai Lapok, published by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and between 1995 and 2000, of the journal JABES (Journal of Agricultural, Biological and Environmental Statistics).

    His research and teaching work has been recognized with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary. He was awarded the Széchenyi Prize in 2006 for his work in educating future scientists in the field of doctoral schools in the life sciences.
