Tamás Haidegger
He works as an associate professor at Óbuda University (ÓE); he is the deputy director of the Bejczy Antal iRobot Technology Center, founded in 2012; and the acting director of the Robot Technology College. His research projects cover several areas of biomedical science in addition to the control problems of robotic surgery and space telesurgery (autonomy, safety technology, teleoperation of robots).
He received his PhD in 2011 for his work on a neurosurgical robot, a topic he pursued as a fellow at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Between 2013 and 2016, he was awarded the János Bolyai Research Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Author of over 160 scientific publications, invited speaker at numerous international conferences and universities. Research manager at the neighboring Austrian Center of Medical Innovation and Technology (ACMIT).
He holds several positions in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Robotics and Automation Society (RAS); he works in the ISO/IEC joint working group on the development of new robotics standards. He is the Vice President of the IEEE Hungary Section, one of the Vice Presidents of the IEEE RAS Industrial Activities Board. He has participated in the development of several robotics standards (ISO, IEC, IEEE).
He is the co-founder of HandInScan, an innovation spin-off company founded to monitor medical hand hygiene. The Semmelweis Scanner developed here has already received early recognition in 25 domestic and international innovation and business development competitions. He works with his team with the WHO (World Health Organization) and several international centers to effectively prevent the spread of hospital infections, which cause hundreds of thousands of deaths in developed countries every year. He has been running a unique surgical robotics blog for over 10 years.
