Ildikó Györki
Since graduating from the Marx Károly University of Economics (MKKE) in 1972, he has played a significant role in the methodological foundation of the IT developments of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), and in the design, implementation and operation of its general systems, for more than four and a half decades.
He worked at the Central Statistical Office's IT Directorate, the Central Statistical Office's Computer Centre (SZK), then at the Central Statistical Office's Informatics Department as a system organizer, IT consultant, later as a department head and as a deputy department head responsible for the development of data collection systems. From 2009 until his retirement in 2017, he was the chief professional advisor to the Central Statistical Office's Methodology Department.
During his university years, he became familiar with the basics of database management. At the Central Statistical Office, he developed the description and identification of the general structure of statistical information, which served as the basis for the design and description of statistical topics (so-called STAR databases) based on uniform relational principles and with metadata – initially with the so-called MARK IV file management system, and from 1993 with ORACLE database management, design and development tools.
In 1980, he designed the first metadata-driven data retrieval system, SOLAR. Later, he participated in the design, implementation, introduction and operation of several metadata-driven systems and statistical registers supporting individual stages of the statistical data production process. The most important of these are the GÉSA system supporting data collection and organization, the KARÁT system supporting data transfer and data transfer, the Statistical Address Register and the KSH Document Library.
Part of his methodological activities is the description of the Statistical Data Production Process, which localizes the IT operating model of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and the UN GSBPM model, the methodological description of statistical registers and the foundation of geostatistics.
As part of an international project, he wrote and edited the chapters on registers and data collection organization of EUROSTAT's methodological manual for modern economic statistics.
His professional work was recognized by the management of the Central Statistical Office in 2011 by awarding him the title of Chief Advisor to the Central Statistical Office.
Awards: For Excellent Work (KSH, 1980); Fényes Elek Memorial Medal (KSH, 1998); “For Service to the KSH” gold ring (KSH, 2016).
