Lajos Fogoly
After graduating from university, he started working at the Communications Department of the Mechanics Laboratory, but shortly afterwards he joined the Computer Coordination Institute (SZKI) as a scientific associate and hardware-related microprogrammer, participating in the development of the back-up storage of the R-10 and R-15 computers. He was a regular participant in the international coordinating body (based in Moscow) dealing with the Unified Computer System (ESZR) C6 back-up storage.
From 1980, he worked for four years as an employee of the SZKI, within the framework of intellectual export, at Siemens Austria in Vienna. After a short time, he participated in the development of software for Siemens telephone exchanges as a software project manager.
He was appointed commercial director at Műszertechnika in 1986. Under his leadership, the company's commercial volume increased by orders of magnitude.
In 1989, at the request of a foreign company, he established the Eastern European division of HRP Consultants SARL, and as its director, he managed the exclusive sales of the high-tech products of the Japanese company Star in Eastern Europe.
In 1992 (also at the request of a foreign company), he established the Hungarian distribution company of Taiwanese DTK Komputer, Gemlight-DTK Komputer Rt. He managed the company as CEO, earning the title of the most successful European DTK company.
In 1995, at the request of Tibor Gyurós, he took over the management of DataNet Rt. He had a significant contribution to the company's change of direction, which was to turn towards a new technology, the internet. DataNet became the pioneer and flagship of the domestic internet. Under his leadership, the internet accessible to everyone, with a profit interest, was introduced. A network covering the entire country was continuously developed. A pioneering method was the franchise system, which was developed and successfully applied together with Tibor Gyurós, and is unique in the IT sector. In 1987, he participated in the successful sale of DataNet Rt., after which, as the company's former CEO, he was forced to enter a 1.5-year moratorium on the internet business. During the moratorium, he dealt with the screening of companies and the facilitation of company acquisitions.
In 1999, together with Iván Solt, he founded EQnet Zrt., of which he became the chairman and CEO. After Tamás Graur joined as an owner, he continued to participate in the company's strategic decisions as chairman. EQnet Zrt. pioneered the so-called virtual internet service, which later became widespread in Hungary. The company became a significant player in the domestic internet market by acquiring several smaller and larger internet service providers (e.g. inter.net Magyarország). The company was successfully sold in 2010; he retired at the same time.
Between 1994 and 1995, he was a member of the board of the Association of Information Technology Entrepreneurs (IVSZ) and the president of the hardware distribution division.
