Lajos Csőke
From 1968, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics of the Eszterházy Károly Teacher Training College (EKTF), and then as an assistant professor from 1970.
In 1972, commissioned by the Textbook Publishing House, he co-authored the book "Functions and their Teaching in Elementary School", which won the General Directorate's award.
From September 1973, he worked as a mathematician at the Computer Center of the Fine Fittings Factory in Eger. In 1976, he moved to the Alpári Gyula Vocational High School in Eger, where he managed the computer technology vocational training as deputy director and was the computer technology supervisor of the National Pedagogical Institute. Between 1986 and 1990, he also worked as a computer technology consultant at the Heves County Pedagogical Institute.
He obtained his doctorate at Kossuth Lajos University (KLTE) in 1986 and his PhD in 1995. From 1988 he worked as an associate professor at the Department of Mathematics of the Eszterházy Károly College (EKF) in Eger. From 1993 he was head of the Department of Computer Science, and from 1997 he was the founding head of the Department of Information Technology; he led the department until his retirement. His teaching activities covered the topics of algorithms and data structures, programming languages, numerical and machine methods, and Integrated Data Processing. He often served as chairman of courses and matriculation exams registered in the National Qualification Register (OKJ).
In 1997, he co-wrote with Gábor Garamhegyi the book "Logical Fundamentals of Computer Programming" published by the National Textbook Publishing House, which won the "Best IT Textbook of the Year" award from the Computer Science Teachers' Association.
He was appointed a college professor in 1996. He played a decisive role in EKF receiving the right to start a college program in programming mathematics in 2001. He wrote numerous textbooks, notes, publications, and gave lectures that helped teach and popularize computer science.
In 1993, he was the founder and main organizer of the International Conference on Applied Informatics (ICAI) international scientific conference series, which is held every 2-3 years in Eger. The traditional conference series is organized by the relevant departments of the University of Debrecen (DE) and the EKF. A refereed publication is being prepared on the presentations given at the conference, the editing and publishing of which also takes place in Eger.
Its students have won prestigious awards at numerous national professional study competitions and Scientific Student Association Conferences (TDK).
Before his retirement, he founded the Prize for the Future of Science, to which he donated 1 million forints. From this amount, the Abacus Foundation supports one young researcher every year.
His awards include: Tarján Memorial Medal (NJSZT, 2002); Péter Kiss Award (EKF, 2008).
