József Csendes
He obtained his technician's diploma at Kempelen Farkas Mechanical Engineering College No. 23 in Sopron in 1956. He spent the then mandatory one and a half year of factory practice in the Radio Factory of the Székesfehérvár Vadásztölténygyár (later Videoton). In October 1958, he was admitted to the Cybernetics Research Group (KKCS) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Initially, he participated in the construction of the first Hungarian vacuum tube computer, the M-3, which was being built there; his task was to measure and repair the electronic sub-units. After the M-3 was put into operation, he participated in the development of ferrite memory and then in the expansion tasks of the computer's drum memory. In the meantime, from 1962, he began his studies at the evening department of the Communications Department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Hungarian University of Technology; he obtained his diploma in 1967. From 1965, he worked at the Economic and Systems Engineering Research Group of the Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (AKI) on the creation of digital electronic equipment.
In 1969, he moved to the newly formed Computer Coordination Institute (SZKI), where he worked as the head of the Hardware Systems Laboratory. Initially, he led the operation of the CII-10010 computer, then he directed the development of individual components of the R-10, R-12 and R-15 computers, mainly the control units of the secondary storage. After that, he led the development of units compatible with the IBM 3276/78 terminal system, which were manufactured at Videoton.
In 1987, he and a few colleagues founded an independent business, in which they continued terminal developments on a contractual basis, and developed various measuring instruments (e.g. microprocessor in-circuit analyzer, data transmission monitor/simulator).
From 1992, he managed the service department of the computer wholesale company HRP Hungary Kft. until 1998. After that, with minor interruptions, he worked as a technical consultant at the same company until 2012. His activities were focused on solving technical and application problems related to various types of printers.
