Csaba Benedek
Between 2002 and 2007, he worked as a part-time undergraduate student and then as a part-time doctoral student at the Computer Science and Automation Research Institute (SZTAKI), where he has been a full-time researcher since 2007. Since 2020, he has been a scientific advisor to the Machine Sensing Research Laboratory of SZTAKI and the head of the Geospatial Computing Research Group of the laboratory; their results are related to various practical areas of computer vision and pattern recognition, such as 3D mapping, static analysis and style analysis of buildings, 3D medical data processing, and perception issues in autonomous vehicles.
Since 2004, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics (ITK) of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPKE); since 2010, he has been the responsible lecturer for the courses Fundamentals of Computer Graphics and Image Analysis. He was habilitated in 2017, and has been a university professor since 2021.
In 2008, he received his PhD in computer image processing from PPKE. Between 2008 and 2009, he spent a year on a postdoctoral fellowship at the French research institute INRIA Sophia Antipolis - Méditerranée. He received his MTA Doctorate in 2020.
During his research work, he proposed new computational methods for solving complex image-based environmental perception tasks. He has proven the practical applicability of his scientific results in numerous projects and patent applications. He has won the János Bolyai Research Scholarship twice. He is a lead researcher for domestic and international R&D projects.
Member of the Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Society (Képaf) of the John Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT) since 2004, member of the board since 2013, president since 2019. Co-organizer of Képaf conferences since 2010s. Board member of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) since 2019; Hungarian contact person of the European Biometrics Society (EAB) since 2015. One of the vice-presidents of the NJSZT since 2021.
Awards: SZTAKI publication award (2010, 2014 and 2018); institute awards (SZTAKI, 2008, 2010), doctoral student awards (2005, 2007); Academic Youth Award (MTA, 2014); Bolyai Memorial Plaque (MTA, 2014); MTA Secretary General's Researcher Recognition (2018); Imreh Csanád Memorial Medal (National Scientific Student Association Conference, OTDK Informatics Section, 2019); Bolyai Plaque (MTA, 2019); Michelberger Master's Award (together with Tamás Szirányi, Hungarian Academy of Engineering, 2020).
