Mrs. Lajos Baracza (born: Gizella Dévai)

Date of birth:
1944.07.28.
Place of birth:
Kaposvar
Education, professional qualification:
  • economist - MKKE - 1966.
  • data processing system organizer - Numbers - 1972.
  • Public administration exam - Hungarian Institute of Public Administration - 2000.

  • After graduating from the Karl Marx University of Economics (MKKE) with a specialization in general economics, he worked at the Computer Center of the Ministry of Internal Trade (KERINFORG), where he had the opportunity to get acquainted with the first computer that was already suitable for performing data processing tasks. He participated in the design, implementation and programming of data processing systems for wholesale companies.

He joined the Central Statistical Office (KSH) at the end of 1970, where he worked for nearly four decades to ensure that the preparation of statistical reports was always supported by the most modern technical solutions available. He was a deputy head of department, head of department at the KSH's Computer Technology Directorate, then at the KSH's Informatics Department, from 1995 he was deputy head of department, and then from 2007 to 2009 he was the chief statistical advisor of the Methodology Department. He and his colleagues initially implemented a database with a unified approach to statistical data, and then, following the development of technology and software systems, they designed generally usable, automated solutions for individual phases of the statistical processing process. Outstanding among these is the KSH's data warehouse system, which allows statistical data to be queried and displayed as desired, both in-house and on the Internet for external users. Also worth highlighting is the meta-information system of the Central Statistical Office, which allows users to find out what concepts, methods and procedures the Central Statistical Office uses to process and publish its data.

He has given lectures at numerous statistical and IT conferences. His design and methodological work is preserved in the systems, their system plans and documentation that are still in operation at the Central Statistical Office today. With his leadership and professional knowledge, an internationally recognized IT system was created at the Central Statistical Office.
