Károly Almás
Between 1959 and 1962 he worked at the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI); then between 1962 and 1964 he worked at the Department of Atomic Physics at ELTE.
From 1967, he was the head of the Technical Department of the Statistical and Economic Analysis Center (MÉM STAGEK) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (where an IBM 360/40 computer operated). After that, he headed the Secretariat of the Ministry's Computer Application Committee (SZAB), where he was responsible for managing sectoral developments and the creation of the Sectoral Information System. As a representative of the Ministry, he participated in the preparation of the establishment of the State Administration Computer Service (ÁSZSZ).
Between 1976 and 1983, he managed the computer centers of the National Water Authority (OVH) and the Budapest Dairy Company (BTV), which operated IBM 360/40, R40, R20 and RC3600 machines; his task was to develop and operate sectoral and corporate information systems.
From 1983, he managed the Computer Center of the Agricultural, Plant Management, Computer Engineering and Informatics Co. (MÜSZI), developing microcomputer systems, managing computer engineering departments and managing large projects.
From 1988, he was a consultant to the State Administration Computer Service (ÁSZSZ), and from 1991, he headed the Budget Department of the Central Statistical Office until his retirement.
He was engaged in significant publishing and social activities.
The Hungarian National Academy of Sciences awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
- He was a member of the legendary team of the Technical University Athletics and Football Club (MAFC). He was the team champion four times between 1957-1960.
