ABOUT US

About us

The Informatics History Forum (iTF) is a professional community established in January 2009 within the framework of the John Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT). Our goal is to present and document the history, development and achievements of informatics in Hungary, from the very beginning. (For more information, see the mission menu item) We undertook this task in order to draw the attention of today's and future generations to the past, whose experts - with their pioneering work, which is slowly being forgotten - laid the foundation for today's present and a future full of opportunities. To this end, we support the exploration, preservation and presentation work taking place in various places and with different goals, and we organize meetings and discussion forums for those interested in the history of informatics, the results of which we evaluate and disseminate.

We consider it our priority to present the people, institutions, products, events and writings that played an important role in the past, using the professional memory of those still alive.

Our main areas of activity – accompanied by broad interest – that achieve our goals are:

  • organizing conferences and meetings recording the defining stages of domestic IT,
  • Continuously exploring and collecting memories of the past, writing memoirs and making videos, and assisting in all of these,
  • compilation of a database about the most significant personalities, institutions, products, events, and documents of (mainly) Hungarian IT history,
  • news service related to the above topics.

We publish our results on our website.

The work of the iTF is managed by a Management Board; the current members were elected at the iTF General Assembly held at Óbuda University on August 2, 2016. The materials of the Informatics History Database are collected and maintained by an Editorial Board.

We would like to thank our Collaborating Partners for their valuable financial and intellectual support.

In our work, we closely cooperate with the NJSZT Informatics History Exhibition ( ITK ).

Our logo is made up of objects that are significant in the history of computing equipment.
