The domestic spread of optical cable networks began in the mid-1980s.

In addition to design, they also carried out system and technology development.

Their task was to design substations, complete residential, industrial and modernized city center telephone networks.

Design of a stored program controlled telephone exchange.

They designed technical news facilities and prepared expert opinions for non-postal organizations.

Preparation of replacement and development plans for telecommunications networks in connection with the development planning of the national road network.

The highway emergency telephone network was designed for the initial highway planning.

In connection with railway electrification, the effect of high-voltage current on postal cables was investigated and their protection was designed.

A key task was to plan the national communications network for the armed forces and government agencies.

Among the export tasks, the following tasks were the most significant: information technology design for the Orenburg gas pipeline, information technology design for the Mongolian People's Republic in Ulan Bator.

Between 1985.01.01 and 1989.12.31 it operated under the name POTIBER (Postal Investment and Planning Institute),

It operated under the name POTIBER Ltd between 1990.01.01 and 1994.08.31, and was then closed down for economic reasons.

 The use of computer technology at POTI was part of the daily work and was quite unique. However, the plans they made were of decisive importance in the foundation of Hungarian IT, laying the foundation for data transmission.
