A department was established within the Directorate, which performed research and educational tasks. They taught the staff of the KGM and the students of the Institute of Engineering Continuing Education – which was part of the Budapest University of Technology (BME). In 1962/63, a National-Elliott 803/B computer was installed in the department, and thus the Computing Center of the Ferrous Metallurgy Directorate was established, which was located at 7 Október 6-a utca in Budapest.
