Zoltán Vamossy
After graduating from university, he worked as a software developer at the VIDEOTON Development Institute between 1984 and 1989. Between 1989 and 2009, he was an associate professor and lecturer at Óbuda University (ÓE) and its predecessor institutions. Since 2010, he has been an associate professor at ÓE, the operational director and deputy dean of research of the Neumann János Faculty of Informatics (NIK), and then the director of the ÓE NIK Institute of Applied Informatics.
Under his leadership, multi-semester, small-group project work became established in the engineering and computer science education from 1997. His students have achieved 12 first, 9 second and 10 third places at the National Scientific Student Association Conferences (OTDK) until 2016. He is the president of the ÓE Scientific Student Association (TDK) Council, acting director of the Neumannn János College, and member of the Talent Council.
His research interests include machine vision, environment mapping and navigation of mobile robots. His doctoral dissertation was on "Navigation of mobile robots with PAL-optics-based machine vision".
Since the early 1990s, he has been a member of the Artificial Intelligence Department of the John Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT). He is the author of one of the chapters of the Artificial Intelligence textbook organized by the department. Since 2006, he has been a member of the Department's management, and since the summer of 2012, its secretary. For many years, he has been the main organizer of the Intelligent Systems - Young Researchers Symposium event. He is a founding and management member of the NJSZT Robotics Department. He is one of the organizers of the annual Robot Day, and since 2015, of the Robot and Artificial Intelligence Day.
His main awards: Informatics Instructor of the Year (Association of Leading Informatics Professionals, 2004); Memorial Plaque for Hungarian Higher Education (Ministry of Education, 2004); Master Teacher Gold Medal (OTDK, 2005); Outstanding Faculty Instructor (ÓE NIK, 2012); Medal of Honor of Óbuda University (ÓE, 2015), Neumann Award (NJSZT, 2016); Public Educator of the Year (ÓE, 2018); Lifetime Achievement Award (NJSZT, 2024).
