Place of birth:
Budapest
Education, professional qualification:
  • Electrical Engineering - McGill University, Montreal, Canada - 1961.

  • He began studying to be an agricultural engineer in 1955, and after the 1956 revolution, he emigrated to Canada, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. In 1990, he participated in the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard University.

After graduating, he moved to the United States; he worked in research and development at Transitron Corporation in Boston (1961–1964) and then at Fairchild Semiconductor International (California) (1964–1968) (where he led the development of the so-called "self-aligned gate" integrated circuit manufacturing technology).

In 1968, after two of his former Fairchild Semiconductor colleagues, Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, founded Intel Corporation, a third colleague, Andrew Grove, brought him with him to the new company, where they became the first non-owner employees of Fairchild Semiconductor. (He became the fourth employee to join the company that would later make computer history and become the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer.)
He worked at Intel for 35 years in various leadership positions. He started in product design: he led the team that designed the first microprocessor (Intel 4004), which revolutionized the computer industry. He led the development of the company's first highly integrated dynamic RAM and first EPROM chips. During his years at the company, he managed several business units and was a member of the board of directors.

In 1991, he founded the company's venture capital arm, Intel Capital, and remained its chairman until his retirement. The strategic investment firm has helped launch more than a thousand companies in more than thirty countries around the world.
He retired as executive vice president of the company in 2003. Following his retirement, he remained a director emeritus on Intel's board of directors for a few more years.
