Irén Tölgyesi
His first job was at the Instrumentation Research Institute, where he participated in the preparation of the production of the radio frequency millivoltmeter and the adjustment of the finished instruments as a research assistant in the Analog Electrical Department.
In 1970, he joined the Computer Center of the National Planning Office (OT SZK), where he worked as a senior lecturer in the hardware operations department of the ICL 4/70 mainframe computer until 1978. In the operations department, his work was primarily the maintenance of data transmission equipment and magnetic storage devices. In 1977, he obtained a diploma in Digital Electronics Engineering.
From 1978 he became the head of the then-established software group at the Hungarian Telegraph Office (MTI), and then became a senior advisor in 1994. Under his leadership, a real-time news distribution program system was developed for the Perkin-Elmer Interdata 7/32 computer in assembly language to transmit news from the independent computer systems of the editorial offices to subscribers. This program system transmitted MTI's news for 19 years.
His other work at MTI: creating a personnel record system for PCs in dBASE III; developing a PC framework program in Pascal for foreign correspondents' news reporting; a keyboard program for converting the special MTI character code set to different PCs; initial design and administration of the MTI website. In addition, creating and maintaining an internal information system; user administration on VAX computers; preparing and "customizing" desktop and laptop computers for domestic and foreign correspondents, providing them with appropriate programs; training; providing telephone assistance.
In 2000, he retired while maintaining his full-time employment and continued his previous work until November 2011.
