  • He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (VIK) of the Budapest University of Technology (BME) in 1962. From then on, he worked at the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI).
    He started at the Measurement and Computing Research Institute (MSZKI). His first work was a Resistor/Capacitor Sorting Machine, which received the grand prize at the 1965 Budapest International Fair. From 1970 he worked as a research associate.

    In 1984, he became head of the Communication Research Group at the Hungarian Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics. In 1989, he moved to the Space Technology Department of the Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics (RMKI), where he worked until his retirement; but he continued to receive contract assignments there.

    His main areas of work initially included front-end processors, computer interconnection, and the development of large-scale and local area networks. Later, he worked on creating measurement and data acquisition systems, designing on-board electronics for space probes, and creating ground-based testing devices (EGSE: Electronic Ground Support Equipment) for scientific equipment placed on probes.

    He has numerous publications and patents.

    Awards: Gold degree of the Excellent Inventor Award (MTA and National Invention Office (OTH), 1976); Institute Award, 2nd degree (shared, KFKI, 1976); Jánossy Award (shared, KFKI, 1987); Jánossy Award, 1st degree (shared, KFKI, 1996).
    His degrees: “Certificate to János Sulyán in recognition of your outstanding contribution to the ROSETTA Mission” (European Space Agency, 2004); Certificate for Hungarian Space Research (distributed, Hungarian Space Research Institute (MÜI), 2006).
