    Between 1975 and 1991, he was a research engineer at the Computer Science and Automation Research Institute (SZTAKI) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His topics include robotics, CAD (Computer-aided Design), image processing, and computer graphics. In 1982, he earned a doctorate in engineering from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology (BME).
    Between 1978 and 1979 he was a research fellow on robotic manipulators and microprocessor control at Trinity College, Cambridge University (UK).
    From 1991 to 1996, he was the deputy director of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (SZTAKI); he is involved in contract research and international relations.

    Between 1996 and 1999, he was the deputy chairman of the National Technical Development Committee (OMFB), dealing with European and international affairs and innovation policy.

    Between 2000 and 2002, he worked as the Minister's Chief Advisor for R&D on international and EU issues at the Ministry of Education (OM). Between 2002 and 2003, he was the Deputy State Secretary for Research and Development, also at the OM.

    Between 2004 and 2005, as Deputy Chairman of the National Research and Technology Office (NKTH), he was responsible for participating in the work of the National Research and Technology Innovation Fund (NKTIA) and the EU accession negotiations, developing pre-accession funds, and Hungarian participation in the EU Research Framework Programme. He was also chairman of the Hungarian CERN Committee for a period.

    Between 2005 and 2017, he was Policy Director for Transport and Energy Research and Innovation at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.

    Award: Neumann Prize (NJSZT, 2006).
