Loránt Sánta
He wanted to be a physicist, but in 1955 (due to his background, like many of his peers) he was not accepted to ELTE. He worked at the Dunaújváros post office for 1 year, then in 1956 he was accepted to the mathematics-physics department of the University of Szeged. In 1959 he changed the physics department to the applied mathematics department, thus graduating from the second year of László Kalmár's school in Szeged. The title of his diploma thesis: Numerical solution of differential equations using the Runge-Kutta method for the M-3 calculator.
After 1 year spent with the M-3 machine, he developed ferrous metallurgy applications on Elliott 830 and IBM 1440 machines at the Dunai Vasmű (DV) in Dunaújváros for 9 years – e.g. the investigation of the optimal campaign length of Siemens Martin furnaces and the programming of the hot rolling mill. Between 1970 and 1974, he was a senior research fellow and head of the Program Design Department at the Computer Laboratory of the Computer Engineering Coordination Institute (SZKI). He actively participated in software development work, e.g. the calculation of the total wood mass of a forest and the statistical investigation of hearing loss at work. From 1971 to many years, he taught the subject of operations research to the system organizers of the Dunaújváros College Faculty of the Technical University of Heavy Industries (NME). In the meantime, he earned a correspondence degree in electrical engineering from the BME.
From 1975, he worked in leading positions at the International Computer Education Center (Számok), the Electrical Equipment and Equipment Works (VBKM), the Central Statistical Office State Computer Service (KSH), the HUNGAROCAMION International Motor Transport Company, and finally the State Insurance (ÁB) Electronics and System Development Ltd., then in the computer centers of ÁB-Aegon. After his retirement in 1997, he worked for 10 more years at the computer center of Aegon Hungary General Insurance Co. Ltd.
