Gyula Páti
He wrote his PhD thesis on the bearing capacity of large-diameter piles, and then established a soil mechanics and foundation model experimental laboratory at the Institute of Building Sciences (ÉTI).
In 1971, as the director of the Ministry of Construction's Computerization and Management Organization Company (ÉM Számgép), his task was to prepare the reception of the third-generation computer (Siemens 4004) that would perform the tasks of the sector, and then to develop these control and data processing systems. The company he led served the domestic construction industry by developing and implementing systems that assisted in sector management, technical design, company and production management, and management support (ERALL, VOP, sector management data bank, material and payroll management systems of large companies).
Within the framework of the Standing Committee on Construction of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (KGST), he performed the duties of the Permanent Working Group on Computer Technology, chaired by János Szabó, through which he built international relations in the field of computer applications.
In 1977, he returned to construction research and, as head of department, scientific director, and then acting director general of ÉTI, he managed construction research, computer support for measurement data collection and data processing, and process control developments in the building materials industry.
He was one of the initiators and organizers of two “Computer Technology in the Construction Industry” conferences (1974 and 1984).
