András Láng
From 1955 he worked as a radio engineer at the ORION Factory. In the meantime, he obtained a teaching diploma from the Kossuth Lajos University of Science (KLTE) in Debrecen. Between 1961 and 1970, he was a teacher at the Alpári Gyula Vocational School of Economics in Eger. As a novice teacher, he became interested in computer technology even then.
Between 1971 and 1993, he worked as the head of the IT department of the Heves County Directorate of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), and then as the deputy director. His task was to introduce the application of computer technology and to win over the statisticians working there to the use of the new technology. – In 1976, he also graduated from the Technical University of Heavy Industries (NME) in Miskolc, majoring in computer system organization.
Meanwhile, he was a teacher at the Eger Secondary School of Economics. Here, he and his colleagues developed (as a kind of laboratory experiment) the main computer science curricula, keeping up with the rapidly developing programming techniques. He also became involved in the work of the Neumann János Secondary School of Economics in Eger, which was founded in 1987.
From 1993, as the director of the Pásztorvölgyi Elementary School and High School, he established a professional workshop that became an important national base for basic IT training. In 1997, the President of the Republic awarded him a medal for his outstanding work.
In 1996, he was an active participant in the establishment of the Heves county organization of the Hungarian National Association of Computer Science and Technology. As the president of the organization, he participated in maintaining relations between professional organizations; he considered it important to popularize IT and organize school computer science competitions.
Awards: Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (President of the Republic, 1997); Neumann Prize (NJSZT, 2008).
- "A person is not what they look like, a person is not what they think or say they are. A person is what and how they do," András Láng testified.
- He often said: he was always driven by a kind of inner urge, a desire to do something for his people and for Eger. He was a true local patriot. He had a famous saying that people never come down to Eger from the capital, but go up.
