  • He was a research assistant at the Mathematics Laboratory of the Coordinating Institute for Computer Science (SZKI) from 1971. From the beginning, he worked on image processing topics, such as recognizing product identification labels on conveyor belts, analyzing meteorological satellite images, fingerprint recognition, and measuring antibiotic inhibition zones.

    He began working on Optical Character Recognition (OCR) in 1984. After initial research and development work, version 1.0 of the OCR program Recognita, suitable for international distribution, was completed by 1987.

    In 1989, he was one of the founders and deputy research director of SzKI-Recognita Rt. As is known, in 1996, Recognita was purchased by the American company Caere, the developer and distributor of the most widely used OCR program in the world, OmniPage.

    As one of the owners of Recosoft Kft., founded in 1994, until his retirement in 2004, he was the main developer of the OCR algorithms of both the Recognita and OmniPage character recognition programs.

    Important awards: Kalmár Prize (NJSZT, 1989); Széchenyi Prize (shared, 1991).
