Lóránt Holtzer
He started working at the Mechanical Measuring Instruments Factory (MMG), and then in 1971 he was appointed as the economic manager of the Measurement and Computing Research Institute (MSZKI) of the Central Physical Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (KFKI). He held this position until 1989, during which time he ensured the Institute's stable financial conditions for scientific research, as well as the - sometimes cumbersome - procurement of modern equipment necessary for the small-scale production of products based on research results.
He significantly supported the development of systems to assist the blind, the BarinLab (text-to-speach) talking computer family.
In 1991, he became the president of Megamicro Elektronikai és Biznestostechnikai Rt., which had been transformed from a small cooperative into a joint-stock company. The joint-stock company primarily developed property protection systems and networks, but they are also credited with developing the so-called event-driven digital image recording.
After his retirement, he engaged in research on 20th-century Hungarian history (he enrolled in the history department of the Central European University; participated in the work of the Open Society Archive; became the caretaker of the estate of former Prime Minister András Hegedüs; contributed to the compilation of the Archive's exhibition "Auschwitz – Reconstruction"; published studies).
