István Fekete (1951)

At ELTE, he led practical classes in his fourth and fifth years in the Mathematics Program Design program, founded in 1972, so he was able to teach the first years as well.

After graduation, he joined the Department of General Computer Science at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (TTK) of ELTE. He obtained his PhD in 1996 and was appointed as an associate professor in 1997. The organizational unit first changed to the Department of Informatics, and then in 2003 the independent Faculty of Informatics (IK) was established; he retired from there in 2016.

In his educational activities since the mid-eighties, his main task has been the development and teaching of the subject Artificial Intelligence. The book “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence”, written together with his colleagues, has been published in three editions (1990, 1999 and 2006).

Between 1995 and 2003, his educational organizational task was to organize and then administer the self-funded evening section of the computer science program. After the establishment of ELTE IK, he held the position of Deputy Dean of Education for four years between 2003 and 2007.

In 1983-1984, together with two colleagues, he developed a software system that performed segment-based classification of remotely sensed images. This topic accompanied his entire career, and most of his publications are in this area.

In addition to his thesis supervision, three doctoral students successfully defended their theses. He was the co-supervisor of three student group theses that also achieved a place at the OTDK.

Honors: Pro Universitate Commemorative Medal, gold grade (ELTE IK, 2007); Outstanding Lecturer of the Faculty of Informatics (ELTE IK students, 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2015).
