Károly Farkas
After graduating from university, he worked as an engineer between 1970 and 1978: installation management, thermal engineering, static design, and technical management of a glass factory.
Between 1978 and 1981, he taught basic subjects at the College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation (GAMF), and at the invitation of Ervin Szücs, he participated in the development of the high school technology subject and the high school teaching of the subject at the ELTE Department of Technology. Between 1981 and 1983, he ran a petrology pilot plant at the Department of Petrology and Geochemistry, and then defended his doctoral dissertation on this subject in 1987 under the supervision of Professor Imre Kubovics.
1981-től másfél évtizeden át a Budapesti Tanítóképző Főiskolán oktatott technikát, majd informatikát; és a számítógépek használatát segítette a közoktatásban.
Kutató munka alapján kidolgozta a Játékos Informatika (JIO) paradigmát, amely hazánkban az első részletesen publikált, tudományosan igazolt tananyag és módszertani ajánlás volt az általános iskolai informatikai képzéshez; ezt 1981-től terjesztette.
He developed, organized, and taught technology and then informatics subjects at ELTE, the National Pedagogical Institute (OPI), and other public education institutions from 1978 to 1999.
In 1997, he earned a PhD in Educational Sciences from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
From 1999, he established the Econometrics subject group as the head of the department at the Szolnok College of Commerce and Economics. From 2003, he taught as an associate professor at the University of Óbuda, and then taught as a retired lecturer.
Between 2005 and 2008, he founded the Technical Vocational Education Department at GAMF and introduced the higher-level application of the JIO methodology.
He was constantly involved in public life: NJSZT, Educational Sciences Association (founding member), Eurologos International Scientific Committee, the Forum of Economic Informatics Researchers and Educators.
Between 1994 and 2015, he headed the Logo and then MicroWorld Logo departments at the National Institute of Logo Design. Between 1994 and 2011, he organized the HungaroLogo conference 15 times.
- He has written books, conference presentations, and publications. – Together with Győző Kovács, he has made lecture tours in Hungary and neighboring countries.
- He introduced the experimental teaching of the computer science subject in high school, then continued it in teacher training at the Budapest Teacher Training College between 1981 and 1995. He also introduced the subject in the lower grades of elementary school in the 3rd grade of the ELTE practice school in 1985, and in the Hikádé Aladár Elementary School between 1986 and 1992 – first in the second grade in 1986, and first in the first grade in 1987.
