    In 1969, and from 1986 onwards, he was a research associate at the Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics (TMIT) of the Budapest University of Technology (BME), then an associate professor; finally an honorary professor. In 1989, he obtained the title of Candidate of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

    Between 1993 and 2008, he was the head of the faculty and university level of BME. Between 1993 and 2001, he was the deputy dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (VIK).
    Between 2001 and 2008, he was the director of foreign language courses (English, German, French, Russian) at BME. He is a lecturer at the Pál Vásárhelyi Doctoral School of Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences at BME.
    Between 1969 and 1986, he was the leader of numerous industrial projects in the field of telecommunications protocols and software.
    He worked as a visiting professor in South Korea in 1992 and 1993-1994. He was a visiting professor in the United Kingdom in 1996-1997.

    His research interests include the formal language description of telecommunication systems and telecommunication software, protocols, and their implementation, verification, and testing. He is the leader and participant of several industrial projects in these topics. He has reported on his scientific and professional results in domestic and international journals.

    Between 1986 and 1996, he worked part-time at the Central Office of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). He is an expert at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (Sophia Antipolis).

    Between 2008 and 2010, he was the President of the National Research and Technology Office (NKTH).
