Peter Brown
After graduating from university, he worked as a researcher at the Electricity Research Institute (VEIKI) for three and a half decades. He was one of the developers of the computer solution for the national load distribution system; he also acquired more in-depth computer science knowledge at this time, and also contributed to the servicing of Western computers. In 1989, he left the institute as a department head to use his experience gained there in the banking sector. – He professionally supported the establishment of the banking informatics training.
Between 1989 and 1993, he was the managing director of K&H Bank Rt., in the bank's Computer and Information Center. Under his leadership, Hungary's first Fault-tolerant computer system was implemented. In 1993, at the invitation of Sándor Csányi, he took a position at OTP Bank, where he was the bank's deputy CEO until his retirement in 2001. He is credited with the IT modernization of Hungary's largest bank.
He remained active after his retirement. He worked as an advisor to the President and CEO and as the chairman of the bank's IT steering committee, and since 1997 he has been a member of the board of directors of the bank and GIRO Rt.
From 2009, he was the president of the Association of Leading Computer Scientists (VISZ) for four times. As the head of the Association, he took an active role in ensuring that real industrial experiences could appear in domestic IT higher education. He taught at BME for 11 years. The VISZ programming camp for primary school students was established on his initiative.
The Hungarian National Academy of Sciences awarded him a lifetime achievement award in 2011.
