József Bokor
After graduating from university, he worked as a research associate at the Csepel Institute of Control and Computer Science, then as the head of the Operations Research Department.
Since 1987, he has been the head of the Systems and Control Theory Research Laboratory of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Computer Science and Automation Research Institute (SZTAKI), since 1995 he has been the deputy scientific director of the Institute, and since 2008 its scientific director.
He has been teaching at the Budapest University of Technology (BME) since 1982, and has been a professor at the Department of Traffic Automation (later the Department of Traffic and Vehicle Control) since 1992, and was the head of the department until 2018. He is an honorary professor at the Szent István University of Gödöllő (SZIE), and the head of the Automotive Research Center at the Széchenyi István University (SZE), Győr. In 2007, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Technical University of Timisoara, and in 2012 by the University of Óbuda.
He has been a visiting scholar at Imperial College (London, England), MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge), and Delft University (Netherlands). He is a research professor in the Aerospace Department at the University of Minnesota (USA).
His research interests include the theory and automation of linear and nonlinear, multivariable dynamic systems. He is the author or co-author of more than ten books and five hundred scientific papers, with thousands of references.
His research results are applied in the design of vehicle structures and vehicle dynamics models. He is the leader of several domestic and international cooperations in vehicle and flight control research. He and his research group are responsible for the development and implementation of the real-time signal processing system developed for the Paks nuclear power plant, as well as the computer control system implementing primary circuit pressure control.
University doctor since 1977, candidate of technical sciences since 1983, academic doctor since 1990. Corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1998, full member since 2001. Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Presidency since 2014, Vice President of Natural Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 2017 to 2020.
Member of international professional organizations: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - IEEE Fellow, International Federation of Automatic Control - IFAC Fellow, IFAC Council Member.
His awards: Academic Award (shared, 1987); Dénes Gábor Award (Novofer Foundation, 1994); Benedikt Award (SZTAKI, 1999); Héliosz Award (Paksi Atomerőmű Zrt., 2003); Széchenyi Award (2007); Middle Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (2013); Donát Bánki Jubilee Award (MTA and others, 2009); Károly Simonyi Award (BME and others, 2010).
