Lajos Bálint
Between 1969 and 1982, he was a scientific associate and then head of the scientific department at the Telecommunications Research Institute (TKI); he worked on spatial theory and computer-aided design (CAD).
He obtained his doctorate from the Budapest University of Technology (BME) in 1976, and in the same year he became a candidate of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). These were qualified as PhD degrees by BME in 1997.
Between 1982 and 1985, he was a senior research fellow at the Computer Science and Automation Research Institute (SZTAKI) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; his research field continues to be CAD.
He was the Chief Advisor for Natural Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 1985 to 1997. For a while, he headed the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Computer Science Applications Committee.
Between 1997 and 1999, he was the director of the National Communications and Informatics Council (NHIT), and then until 2000, he was the head of department responsible for IT issues at the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage (NKÖM).
Between 2000 and 2016, he was the Deputy Director for International Relations at the National Information Infrastructure Development Institute (NIIFI), and from 2016, he was an advisor to the Government Information Technology Development Agency (GITDA).
He has been a member of the board of the Hungarian Higher Education and Public Education, Research and Public Collections Computer Network Association (Hungarnet) since its founding; he was its vice-president for a long time.
Meanwhile, he also pursued educational activities: between 1970 and 1974, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Theoretical Electricity of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (VIK) of BME; from 1974 to 1975, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Natural Sciences of the Kandó Kálmán Technical College (KKMF); then he returned to BME. First, he taught at the Institute of Telecommunications Electronics (HEI) of VIK, then between 1985 and 1993, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Theoretical Electricity of VIK, and from 1991, he was an honorary associate professor. Between 2004 and 2010, he taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Pannonia.
He has nearly 190 publications. He has participated in conferences, workshops, and as an invited speaker in about 40 countries.
Awards: Medal of Merit in Information Communication (Minister of National Development, 2017); Hungarnet Award (Hungarnet Association, 2012).
