László Balázs-Piri
Between 1972 and 1989, he worked at the Computer Coordination Institute (SZKI, later known as the Computer Research Institute and Innovation Center), where he rose from a scientific assistant to the position of deputy head of department. Initially, he was involved in organizing technical and scientific cooperation aimed at developing the Unified Computer System (USS) of the member countries of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA), later in corporate professional and economic planning, and in the decision-making basis for domestic computer technology developments.
Between 1975 and 1988, he participated as an expert in the work of several expert committees of the National Technical Development Committee (OMFB). In the early 1980s, his professional interest was focused on exploring the possibilities of Hungarian software export; later, he dealt with issues of the computer embargo.
In 1989, he was one of the founders and deputy director of production and customer service of the joint venture SZKI Recognita Rt. He was the managing director of the Rt. between 1991 and 1994. After the company was purchased by the American company Caere in 1996, and then by the also American ScanSoft (later named Nuance Corp.) in 2000, he was the administrative director of Caere-Recognita Zrt. from 1996 to 2008, and then of Nuance-Recognita Zrt.
Between 1991 and 2000, he was the head of the board of trustees of the Recognita Foundation, which helps the blind with computer technology.
Honors: Outstanding Employee of the Hungarian Federation of Blind and Visually Impaired Workers (1985); Braille Memorial Medal (National Association of the Hungarian Blind and Visually Impaired Workers, MVGYOSZ, 2001).
